The claim that Afghanistan Cricket team supporters were beaten by Indians during the World Cup match is false. The victim is an Indian cricket team supporter and there is no news of any involvement of an Afghan national.
A video showing a fight between two people is going viral on social media with a claim that an Afghanistan national who was supporting Afghan cricket team was beaten by Indians in the stadium during India vs Afghanistan cricket match in the world cup.
A Twitter user South Asian Journal shared the video with the caption, "Afghan who was supporting Afghan team was beaten by Indians in the stadium during #IndiavsAfghanistan match #WorldCup2023".
The video has 1.4 million views and has been retweeted more than 1600 times.
On Google search, we found that several media houses have covered the story about a fight between fans during the
India Vs AFG match but there is no mention of any AFG fans being beaten by Indians.
We found a better version of the video shared by another user on X. You can watch the video here. We extracted the key frames of the video and found that the fan who was beaten by another had painted an Indian tricolor flag on his cheek.
This clearly proves that the fight was between Indian fans and the Afghanistan national was certainly not the victim.
